Half day excursions:
Roulous
With transport of your choice we’re on our way to Roulous, a traditional village 12km from Siem Reap. On the road we get in touch with some typical Cambodian trades, such as producing noodles, making rice wine, silk weaving and spinning, rice processing. Along the way we visit the local, bustling market of this fascinating village. Lunch is enjoyed as guests of a local family living for generations in the region. This will be an experience to remember! On our way back, if you have an Angkor temple-pass, we can visit the beautiful Bakong temple, the first capital of the Khmer empire.

Kompong Phluk
A little down the road from Roulous, we find the stilt village of Kompong Phluk, on the edge of the flooded forest in the floodplain of the Tonle Sap Lake. Depending on the season this village is only reachable by boat. We buy sweet water shrimps and enjoy lunch on the boat as it meanders through the flooded forest. Swimming is very refreshing, and along the way we spot various birds.
Kompong Phluk can be visited by road in the dry season.

Phnom Krom the harbor of Siem Reap
At the foot of Phnom Krom on the outskirts of Siem Reap, we find the Tonlé Sap Lake harbor where boats leave for Battambang and Phnom Penh. The size of the lake is four times larger in rainy season than in dry, and the village is home to many fishing families living in stilt houses and boats. We climb the hill for a beautiful view on this spectacle followed by a rest in a hammock whilst sipping an ice coffee and enjoying the ever beautiful sunset.

Biking through the rice fields
It’s lovely to escape the hustle and bustle of Siem Reap and cycling in to the rice fields. Visit a duck farm and watch people farming the fields. Immerse yourself in beautiful, melancholic scenery, where tall palm trees rise into the sky. Monks will guide us around a distant temple and share their true culture with us.

Beng Melea
65 km from Siem Reap we find a temple called Beng Melea.
Drive through a number of different villages and get a feeling of the jungle. The quietness of Beng Melea is overwhelming and you feel like a true adventurer in this temple complex.
Stroll through and visit the water cascade out back, and visit surrounding villages and enjoy the scenery. On our way back on the old Khmer highway n°6, we can rest at Banteay Srei, the temple of the women (temple pass required if you wish to enter). At the end of the day we drive through the old city for sunset.

Phnom Bok
Also on the old highway #6 lays Phnom Bok, a hill of strategic importance. Cannons remain from fighting nearby ancient ruins. On a clear day we can see the Tonlé Sap Lake, the Angkor Wat site, and to the North the Koulen mountains. Those with an Angkor temple pass can visit some temples on the way back. At sunset driving through the old city of Angkor Thom has a mysterious feeling.

River of a Thousand Lingas, the jungle life, and the Landmine Museum
Travel to K’bal Spean and trek in the jungle to the River of a Thousand Lingas, phallus symbols carved in the river bed. Explore the beauty of nature and have a closer look at the waterfall. Back at the foot of the hill we lunch and visit the Angkor Centre for Conservation and Biodiversity. Take a guided tour of the unique at species this international breeding center for endangered animals, including gibbons and pangolins. In the afternoon, on the way back we stop at the Akira landmine museum. By sunset we’re driving true Angkor Thom (the old city).

Horse cart, the silk factory and an Angkor-era reservoir
We take a tour with our friends from Buffalo Trails. Take a horse cart through tiny traditional villages and visit local workshops and trades people, with breakfast and lunch in traditional houses. In the afternoon tour a silk factory, then rest at the West-Baray, an old reservoir built in honor of the god-king Jayavarman. A boat visit to the East Mebon temple in the middle of the reservoir is an option.

Kep on the sea
Kep city at the sea
Visit in and around Kep, an old seaside city with many memories from the Khmer Rouge. Stroll around the quiet streets and beach. We enjoy fresh crab meat, locally caught and prepared. In the afternoon we climb Sunset Mountain in Kep National Park for a beautiful view of the bay.
Scooter tour to Vietnam and the caves
We leave Kep in the morning by motorbike across quiet gravel roads, through unvisited villages with salt pans and surrounding jungle, on our way for the Vietnamese border (where we can set foot across the line without visa!). Then we move to surprising Kompong Trach, with many views of daily life. Take a rest at the caves for a refreshing dive in the natural water basin. We drive back following an old, destroyed train track. Just before sunset experience the mystique of a hillside pagoda.
Rabbit Island
Cross by boat to an idyllic island in the sea, in front of Kep’s shorefront. Walk across the seaboard until the end of the world… We can rest at the beach, enjoy the salty water… and delicious local lunch…
Kampot
Kampot city, plantations and beach
Explore a leisurely riverfront city, and the remnants of its former glory from the colonial period. Visit the salt pans and pepper plantations and get a snapshot of daily life of the locals. Later on the day we go to Kampot beach strip: fresh fish with famous fresh Kampot pepper!
Bokor Hill
A visit to the infamous hill, where many battles between the Vietnamese liberation army and the Khmer Rouge were fought. Silent witnesses are the many destroyed buildings, an old church, a casino and the holiday house of the King. Trek through the jungle for an amazing view of the waterfall. In between we lunch at the top and enjoy the breathtaking views of Kampot province and the ocean.
