1. How do I get to Siem Reap?
Siem Reap has an international airport with regular connections to and from Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Seoul-Incheon, Hong-Kong, Kunming, Guangzhou, Ho Chi Ming, Hanoi, Da Nang, Vientiane and Pakse.
Be aware! There’s a departure tax to pay inside the airport of US$25.00. For national flights (Phnom Penh) is this US$6.00.
Cambodia shares its borders with Thailand, Vietnam and Laos. The majority of roads in Cambodia are under (re)construction or complete. All roads coming from the borders are in good condition.
The closest border connection with Siem Reap is with Thailand. From Bangkok there are cars or buses to Aranyaprateth. There you cross the border to Poipet.

Warning: the situation at the border gets better but there are still many touts who work on commission. Do not give your passport to anyone to process – hand it directly to the visa and passport officials yourself (ignore comments that doing it yourself is too slow and your transport on the other side won’t wait: this is not true, and giving your passport to a stranger is never a good idea). For touts involved in transport - the higher the price, the better for them. Don’t be intimidated and dare to negotiate. This is a custom in Cambodia. Take your time, in the end you’re the one on holiday. The journey to Siem Reap takes you about 2.5 hours by taxi. There is no road tax. Buses leave in the morning (until 1pm), taxis are available throughout the day.

We can arrange a taxi pickup for you from Poipet – please contact us for details.

3. Do I need a visa?
All visitors need a visa.
A tourist visa valid for 1 month can be purchased on arrival when carrying a valid travel passport for minimum 6 months after leaving Cambodia. The price is officially US$20.00 (single entry), and can be paid in dollar; additional charge if you do not provide your own passport pictures.

For the immigration service you only need to fill an arrival/departure card (try not to lose your departure card) and a custom declaration form.

4. Is Cambodia dangerous?
For the last few years Cambodia has been socially and political stable.
As in other bigger cities there are small crimes and bag-snatching. Be attentive and don’t forget to carry your camera.

We work with a few known, trustworthy tuk-tuk’s (local taxis) which are there for your use, so you can travel around (especially evenings) without any worries.

5. What do I need for my health?
There are no vaccinations required to enter Cambodia, except coming from an area with high yellow fever risk.

It is definitely advised to have the following vaccinations: typhus, cholera, hepatitis A en B, tetanus and polio. Malaria is a danger when travelling to remote areas and the advice is to take the necessary precautions when travelling off the beaten track. Dengue fever is present, and while not a significant threat proper precautions to avoid mosquito bites should be taken.
Medical supplies are minimal and travel insurance is essential in case of emergency (for example repatriation).

Consult your doctor for recent information and prescriptions.
For smaller issues, Imodium, sun cream protection and mosquito spray, are sufficient.

6. What time is it?
Cambodia is GMT + 7 hours. For Belgium the difference is 6 hours. Except in the summer, when it is 5 hours;  Cambodia doesn’t know winter- and summer time.

7. What is the weather like?
In principal there are 2 seasons: dry and wet, with each a hot and cool period. Cambodia has a dry period, from December(cool) to May(hot), with temperatures to 35° degrees Celsius (April) and a rainy period, from June(hot) to November(cool), when heavy rain showers can be expected.

Cambodia is a relatively small country; temperatures do not vary much throughout, except in the cooler north.
Cambodia enjoys sun true out the year, even in rainy season. It can rain very heavy for a few hours followed by a clear sky with sun.

From December to March is the tourist high season - it can get pretty crowded. June to September sees cooler temperatures with more chance of rain, but it’s not as busy.
